Western Saaremaa Tour – views, stories and island humour

Discover the unique places of Western Saaremaa on a guided tour where peaceful landscapes, fascinating history, and the island’s famous sense of humour come together.

Highlights of Your Adventure:

The Old Bridge View
As we leave Kuressaare, we pass by one of Estonia’s longest historic stone bridges, built in 1820 from local dolomite. Damaged by bombing during World War II, the bridge has been repaired several times over the decades — renovation works even uncovered unexploded aircraft bombs inside. Today it has been beautifully restored and illuminated, making it a striking landmark along the way.

OO Boulder
Along the way we pass the legendary OO Boulder, a strangely shaped glacial rock connected to local folklore. According to one old tale, it was once the devil himself who tried to disguise himself as a horse to kidnap a village girl.

Viki Farm Museum
Next, we visit the charming Viki Farm Museum, a historic farmstead where island life from centuries past comes alive. Here you can discover how Saaremaa families once lived and worked long before electricity and modern technology arrived.

Kihelkonna Church and Bell Tower
In the historic village of Kihelkonna, we explore St. Michael’s Church from the late 13th century together with its rare free-standing bell tower.

Stone Sheep “Parliament”
One of the most cheerful stops of the tour is the famous stone sheep collection — often jokingly called the sheep “parliament”. These humorous sculptures have become a beloved local attraction and a favourite photo spot.

Viewing Tower
Before returning to Kuressaare, we stop at the Rauna Viewing Tower, where wide views open over one of Saaremaa’s most forested regions — a peaceful ending to the day.

A tour that combines the nature, history, and warm humour that make Western Saaremaa so special.
