Western Saaremaa Sights

Discover the Spirit of Western Saaremaa
Join us on a journey through Western Saaremaa’s landscapes, legends, and timeless village traditions.
We begin in Kuressaare and see the historic Long Bridge from afar — one of Estonia’s oldest limestone bridges and the gateway to the calm rhythm of the countryside.
Soon we pass the intriguing “OO Boulder,” a natural formation linked to local folklore. Some say it looks like a horse; others say you need a bit of imagination. Either way, it’s a sight that stays with you.
Our route continues to Lake Karujärv, the oldest lake in Saare County, known for its sandy bottom — the kind of place locals head to on warm summer days.
We then pass Pidula Manor, once home to Baltic German nobles. Here you’ll hear stories about the manor families whose choices shaped life in this part of the island.
Our next photo stop is at the Odalätsi Springs, famous for their crystal-clear water and centuries of legends. Some visitors come for the refreshing taste, others for the healing powers — everyone leaves with a good story.
We continue to the Farm Museum in Viki village, one of the best places to experience traditional island life. The log houses, barns, and tools show vividly how Saaremaa families lived long before electricity, smartphones, or even proper roads.
Our journey then leads to St. Michael’s Church in Kihelkonna, and afterwards you can also see one of Europe’s few free-standing belfries and explore one of Saaremaa’s largest historic cemeteries.
Before returning to Kuressaare, we stop at the Rauna Viewing Tower, where wide views over forests and lakes offer the perfect final moment — fresh air, beautiful scenery, and a reminder of why Saaremaa is so easy to fall in love with.
